N-400 physical presence calculator

Naturalization requires 913 days physically present in the US in the 5 years before you file (548 days in 3 years if filing as the spouse of a US citizen), plus unbroken continuous residence. Enter your numbers below. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Physical presence vs. continuous residence

These are two separate requirements that get conflated constantly. Physical presence is arithmetic: total days on US soil in the window, with departure and return days both counting. Continuous residence is about the pattern: a single trip of 6 months or more is presumed to break it (you can rebut with evidence of maintained ties), and a trip of a year or more breaks it outright, restarting your eligibility clock. You can pass one test and fail the other.

USCIS checks the N-400's trip table against entry records, and same-day border runs count. The applicants who struggle are the ones reconstructing five years of travel from passport stamps, which is exactly the record SpyglassBeacon keeps automatically, day by day, on your device.

How the app tracks your days

Beacon's background location tracking logs every US day (and every trip abroad) automatically as you live them, with no manual trip entry required. That builds the day-by-day, timestamped ledger the physical-presence count above runs on, going back as far as you've had it installed. It does not fill out the N-400's trip table for you or judge continuous residence — that's the arithmetic this calculator does with your numbers, and the judgment call your attorney or USCIS makes — but it means those numbers come from a device record instead of memory and passport stamps.

Not legal advice. Naturalization eligibility involves additional requirements (state residence, good moral character, and more). Confirm your situation with an immigration attorney or USCIS's own guidance.
